I totally agree with you that you should do what works best for you and your child. There is no right or wrong answer as long as the baby gets enough sleep and food. What worries me is when parents walk around exhausted because their child will not sleep through the night or when children have to wake up exhausted and get ready for daycare when they too are tired (because when they keep us up, they are awake too). Learning how to fall asleep is a teachable skill and not a punishment (much like potty training, or learning how to ride a bike).
It’s harder to sleep train as a child gets older but it can be done gradually without too much of a struggle. But you have to find a way that works for you and your baby. And there are lots of different ways to do it. And with every one of them, consistency is the key to success. And that’s the hardest part.
