I would never tell a client no one cares. What she could have said was “people care about YOU, not about what you do or not do for a living”. We would then go into the reasons why she was terrified of failing. To tell a depressed person for instance, that no one cares is dangerous because it could easily be used as a permission slip to end one’s life. And the therapist might lose her license in the process.
