Swedes are rule followers. And almost half of the inhabitants live alone making it easier to remain socially distant. Yet as a Swede (living in America) I don’t get their laid back approach as many of the gyms are still open and outdoor cafes are crowded. Grocery stores seem fairly busy, my nephew’s blinds and awnings business (which includes multiple home visits per customer) is booming and so are every home improvement business. So although the economic ramification seems to be far less severe there, the question of whether or not the Swedish approach will work remains to be seen. I have my doubts that when all this is over and all the bodies are counted, their approach will be the one to follow as our next pandemic hits.
