Also, if you have a child with a tendency to start projects without completing them, you might want to wait and praise the completed project rather than praise the effort. It kind of depends on your child’s personality. And… a statement like “it looks like you worked really hard on this — tell me about it!” is always a good way for a child to develop that inner scale of what he likes and values rather than him always seeking external praise.
